Regional Chrysalis Award - Winner - Whole House Remodel $250,000-$500,000
A Classic Vickie gets a Modern Makeover – By defining this DC Capitol Hill Victorian home's new addition with classic simple lines and light-capturing oversize windows, P&P Construction successfully created a timeless feel for the home, all while maintaining its historic essence.
The home's new interior materials – namely custom kitchen millwork, honey colored bamboo floors and dramatic lighting - merge effortlessly with existing period details - exposed brick walls and coveted "star pin" structural rods. The kitchen was relocated and transformed along with the first floor living area into a dramatic great room space.

- Historic/Green Submission
“Inch By Inch, Row By Row” – Slow and Steady Progress Toward being green in a historic neighborhood.
Just like Arlo Guthrie sings it in the folk anthem – patiently moving “inch by inch” rewards with a green garden, and in the case of a P & P historic district renovation, a green building.
As each of their children grew, the family’s 90 year old classic Wardman became increasingly cramped. P&P’s solution was a historically agreeable whole house extension and third floor addition with an eye on green. Incorporated into the project were a green roof, voc-free paint and sustainable wood floors.
- Community Service: Being a Good Neighbor is Good Business
On historic Capitol Hill, a chattering little hamlet in a big city, positive buzz and a stellar reputation is THE marketing strategy. The stellar reputation is earned on the job via solid craftsmanship, but the buzz is sparked anytime P&P construction lets all Hill residents know that P&P cares about their community.
In the past few months P&P has sponsored a school fundraiser, built a community garden fence and hosted a job site tour for the younger Capitol Hill set. Being a good neighbor is indeed good business!
- Best Work Submission: A Tiny Jewel Box on Historic Capitol Hill
It was one of those projects to be wary of – a tiny, dreary historic district take-over from a shady contractor. The owner had many demands – increased light, air circulation, and space, all while keeping within the same footprint. It was a troubled house, perhaps a jinxed house. P & P Construction bravely stepped up to the challenge, transforming the owner described “cowshed” into a sparkling tiny jewel box.
